Shortlist Saturdays: Unfinished Letter in Reverse by Steve Denehan

Unfinished Letter in Reverse

try not to forget

try to remember

try to remember

try to remember

your body

with the whole of

how you smiled

remember

on the couch

asleep

undeserved miracles

your wife and daughter

both of them

remember

hold you, save you

hear you, see you

let me find you

let me haul you in

let me take your hand

just reach out

for rescue

it is not too late

are you still there

do you even know

can you tell me

what has changed

for laughing

you could not catch your breath

the last time

from smiling

your mouth grew tired

when was the last time

to be happy

almost nothing

you needed very little

not so long ago

how things were

try not to forget

Try to remember

Please Steve,
