“Silence is so accurate.”
—Mark Rothko
A rectilinear
pool. Immersed
and still, we’re inside
Rothko’s painting:
the deep green
colour field—blue
suffused with sun—
floats over
saturated cobalt;
between them a thin
cerulean zone—same blue
that rules my veins.
Translucent as
watermarks, we steep
without the need to
speak—or breathe—
or read into
his meaning.
