I Gave You My Reflection by Samuel Wise

I GAVE YOU MY REFLECTION

I gave you my reflection

And became invisible

Like a phantom, called upon the night

For there is no reason to stare

At my changing face & hair

When the mirror in my mind shines

Upon the shadow of your heart

With the thought of finding you

Inhabiting my flesh

Flowering my soul

For your beauty burns with patience

Into my restless limbs

Which cannot hasten to hold.

I’ll leap through flames

Muttering hoarse love words

Waving my burning poems

Like a flag of self-resurrection

And will hand you the glowing key

To lust’s memory

To preserve the secrets of the soul

And live again

In the remnants of the heart.
