daffodils by Julie Allyn Johnson

daffodils

oh,

but she’s a breezy, cool

one today, a tempestuous zephyr

running roughshod over early spring

reveries of blissful meadows

and sun dappled picnics, a wicker-basket-

lunch packed with Kentucky Fried Chicken,

a handful of berries, multigrain crackers, slab of salty gorgonzola

and a bottle of Riesling, the only

wine whose name

we could pronounce, room-temp-

ready and raring to go.
