Avian Flu by Torian Bay

A cycloptic bluebird

drops social chyme

into dependent beaks.

They snap and chat,

eager to swallow

the virus of their dead,

digest cancerous veins

until a tumor grows,

and sprouts social wings

so they too can hunt,

and strip the birds

who regurgitate freedom

from an invisible cage.
